Biography

Born Anthony Dominick Benedetto on August 3rd, 1926 in Astoria, Queens, Tony Bennett is one of the great American crooners. His song styles are among pop, standards, show tunes and jazz. Tony’s father was sick during his youth and this caused the family to live in poverty. His father passed when he was 10 years old. He began singing at an early age. Tony served in World War II with the US Army and had even at one point been assigned to band duty. His first hit, “Because of You”, was released in 1951 by Columbia Records. Throughout his career, he has received many awards including 15 Grammys, 2 Emmys and a Kennedy Center Honor. He has sold upwards of 50 million records worldwide. He is also an accomplished painter and works under the name “Benedetto”.
